If you’ve been reading spanking stories for a while, no doubt you’ve seen a lot of the same themes again and again. How many ways can a girl get into trouble? Here are some of the more common “spanking offense” in spanking fiction.

Lying/Dishonesty

Smoking

Overspending

Excessive drinking

Drinking and driving

Reckless behavior (not taking safety seriously)

Disobedience (that covers quite a range)

Do we ever really get tired of seeing these same themes? Not if the story is well written and the characters are well developed. Of course, many writers of spanking stories get more creative with their themes. I love when authors come up with something clever and believable. Have you read any unique or creative spanking stories lately?

It’s been a while since I’ve made a post about writing spanking stories. Spanking stories and fairy tales are the perfect “Once Upon a Time” for those of us who love spanking fiction. Why do we love fairy tales? It’s not just the “Happily Ever After”, it’s the fun and fantasy.

How many of you fantasized about spankings in your fairy tales as you were growing up? Or maybe you still do as an adult? Fairy tales aren’t just for kids. Let’s take a look at a few classic fairy tales and peek at the potential for spanking scenes.

Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs- Can’t you just see the dwarfs spanking Snow White, because she opened the door to a strange, the Old Woman/Witch? Maybe the Prince should even spank her for that.

The 3 Little Pigs – Two of those pigs were very naughty. At least in the Disney version they were. Now if you’ve seen that version, you know that all 3 little pigs end up getting spanked by the spanking machine. If you haven’t seen that version that before, check out this video, The Spanking Machine.

Goldilocks and the 3 Bears – Now this girl should get spanked for breaking and entering, don’t you think? And a few extra spankings for eating their food and breaking a chair too. Poor girl. A spanking from a bear has got to hurt.

The Princess and the Pea – Just think if that girl had to sleep on a sore, red bottom with that pea under her mattress. Ouch!

Cinderella - Surely the Prince should spank her for not telling him her name at the ball and making him hunt all over the kingdom for her with that glass slipper.

Consider a few more classic fairy tales, Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, and Sleeping Beauty. Now put on your spanking fantasies hat (you do have one of those, don’t you? Oh well, maybe that’s just me). Can you see a spanking scene opportunity in any of those fairy tales?

Another great spanking story fairy tale idea is to modernize the classic fairy tales. You can write them into a present day location and time. Then mix in a few well-placed spankings (on the bottom, of course), and there you have the makings of some entertaining spanking fiction.

I’d love to hear your ideas on spanking story fairy tales. Can you think of a few more ideas? Have you read any good ones online lately?

What’s your preference when writing or reading spanking stories – short stories, novels, or series? Your preferences may be different as a reader than it is as a writer.

For me, I really enjoy reading series spanking stories. By that I mean, stories that are all based around a theme – like a concept, place or maybe family. For example, I’ve talked before about Nattie’s Sanders Center series at Discipline and Desire. Each story stands alone and each has a different set of central characters, but the characters from previous stories make appearances throughout the series. It really allows for a lot of character development, and the author is able to build on the theme of the series. In this case, the theme is the concept of a center that helps women (and later, couples) through the use of spanking as discipline. I love the whole idea of revisiting characters from previous stories. It’s like catching up with old friends.

The Monroe County series also at Discipline and Desire is another example of a spanking story series, but these stories are actually written by different authors. It’s called a collaborated series. In the Monroe County series, the theme is a small town where it’s common and expected for husbands to discipline their wives. The site has 2 other collaborated series. The Agency is based in the year 2015 when domestic discipline has made a comeback, and the stories in the Personal Trainer series are all about Tony and his unique methods for motivating his clients.

As for writing spanking stories, I tend to only have time to write short stories. Occasionally, I will write a sequel to a story based on the same characters. I’d love to try to write a longer spanking story, something with many chapters that could also later become a series. I’m hoping to find time to do this very soon, and of course, you’ll get to read the story right here on Spanking Storybook. Now if I could just come up with an intriguing theme.

There’s a place for all kinds of spanking stories. Short stories are wonderful for quick bedtime reads, and longer novels let you really get into an involved plot and complex characters. So what do you think? How do you prefer your spanking stories? Or is any spanking story a good spanking story?

I’ve had several spanking story writers contact me by email since I first started Spanking Storybook. I’m curious to know just how many of you actually write your own spanking stories, and of those how many of you have posted them somewhere on the web. As I’ve discussed before, there are many places you can post your spanking stories. Here are a few ideas for publishing your spanking fiction:

Spanking forums or message boards

Spanking Yahoo or MSN groups

Your own spanking blog

Your own spanking website

Social sites for spankos Like Spankolife

Self-publishing sites like Lulu.com

Free spanking story websites like Spanking Storybook

Paid spanking story websites like Discipline and Desire

So how many of you have written a spanking story? I’d love to hear from you.

When spanking fiction is categorized, authors often warn a reader if the story has consensual or nonconsensual spanking scenes. The thought is that some may find a spanking given without the spankee’s consent to be offensive. I always find that just a bit intriguing, because mainstream readers seem to find any kind of spanking to be offensive. I would think that if we have accepted the idea of spankings in a story at all, that whether or not it’s consensual or nonconsensual really shouldn’t be an issue. It would simply be a matter of our overall taste in spanking fiction.

The January 2008 issue of Romantic Times Book Reviews has an article discussing the possible return of “forced seduction” to the romance genre. This type of sex scene was common in the 70s and even 80s, but lost reader support in the 90s. Reading that article made me wonder if fans of nonconsensual spankings in spanking fiction have changed their views over the decades. Since my own experience with reading spanking fiction only goes back to the 90s, I’m wondering if there were more stories with nonconsensual spankings prior to the 90s. I do remember that spankings were more common in historical romance novels prior to the 90s. When I did read a historical romance written before the 1990′s, the spankings I was thrilled to stumble upon nearly always were nonconsensual. This, of course, would be consistent with the period or era of historical novels.

Obviously an erotic spanking scene is likely to imply consent, but what about “forced consent” in a discipline spanking? I see this quite often in spanking fiction. Focusing on spanking scenes with adults only, forced consent in a spanking scene might be one that begins with complete resistance by the spankee, but ends with the spankee accepting the spanking and appreciating it as well (not necessarily liking it). Personally, I like both types of stories. Both consensual and nonconsensual spanking scenes must not only fit within the plot of the story, but must be reasonable within the development of the characters in the story. When all elements of a story flow together, I appreciate either type of spanking scene.

It still seems to be unacceptable to have a nonconsensual spanking scene in a contemporary romance novel. Even in erotic romance novels, there must be some element of consent between the heroine and hero. Some romance authors may be bringing back “forced seduction” to the romance genre, but I’m not seeing any sign of nonconsensual spankings returning to mainstream romance, even in the historical genre.

What is your preference for spanking fiction? Do you prefer consensual or nonconsensual spanking scenes? If you’ve been reading spanking stories since before the 90s, do you think your preferences have changed over the years? Please leave a comment, and let us know.

Working on my own spanking stories, I have to remember that the basics of good fiction writing should always be first in the story. It’s easy to get caught up in the unique elements of a spanking-themed story. It isn’t just about the spanking. For a spanking story that a reader will remember and hopefully return to read again, think about these quick tips to improve your writing.

1. Show Don’t Tell. This one is drilled into any student of creative writing. Think about how you show the spanking scene.

“Jake slowly lowered her panties and delivered several sharp slaps to her bare bottom.”

Or

“Please, Jake, Don’t take off my panties. I promise to be good. OWWW!” Annie gasped at the first painful cracks on her bared bottom.

2. Create An Intriguing Title. Yes, I’m guilty of this one. This is the first thing the reader sees as she scans a web page. Which would you choose to read tonight?

The Next Door Neighbors

Or

Emily’s Learns An Unfair Lesson

Don’t you want to know what’s unfair about the lesson?

3. Know Your Audience. Even in writing spanking stories, keep your focus. Don’t try to write a story that pleases every flavor of spanking fans. Don’t try to cover discipline, erotic, maintenance, M/F, F/F, F/M, consensual, nonconsensual spankings all in one story. Be true to the characters you have created and your readers.

4. Spelling and Grammar Do Count. Even though this is the internet that doesn’t mean you can throw out all the rules. Quality writing still wins over poor writing. When I find a writer who writes well, I’ll make sure I read everything she’s written. Your readers will notice, and they will show you their appreciation with loyalty to your stories.

5. Proofread, Proofread, Proofread. I’m guilty of this too. It’s hard to proofread your own work. Whenever possible, ask someone to read through the story before you publish it to the web.

I’m sure you can think of many other good tips for writing spanking stories. Leave a comment and share a few with us, and don’t forget to subscribe to our RSS feed!

So you’ve written a spanking story. Now what? Do you just save it on your computer and share it only with a few close friends who understand your spanking interest? In my case, that was the wrong choice. I used to do this years ago, and all those stories are now gone. They were victims of my “oh my god, what if my kids found this” panic attacks. Now, I’ve begun to publish my spanking stories here on Spanking Storybook (under a pen name, of course).

The internet spanking community offers many ways to publish your spanking fiction. Here are just a few to consider:

1. Post your story to spanking story forums. There are many online forums that allow anyone to publish a spanking story. You will probably need to register first, and remember to check their terms of use policies before you post.

2. Post your story to a Yahoo group. There are several yahoo groups that encourage spanking story posts. Some are more active than others. Read the previous posts to get a feel for whether or not your story would appeal to that audience. Spanking groups can vary widely, and some will be more open to edgier spanking fiction and others will only enjoy mild, romantic spanking stories. Again, check for any posting policies before you send your story.

3. Submit your story to a paid spanking story site. There are a couple of paid membership sites for spanking stories that may be looking for new writers. Follow their submission guidelines and be sure you understand what republishing rights you may or may not have if they buy your story.

4. Create your own blog or website for your stories. Setting up a website is easier than you might think. There are even free blogging sites. You will need to confirm whether or not they except adult content first. I personally prefer hosting my own blog like I do here on Spanking Storybook. I own the domain, and my web hosting provider allows adult content. I could write an entire post about free blogging sites vs. your own domain (but I will spare you, this time).

5. Self-publish your stories into ebooks. Yes, there are self publishing websites that except spanking fiction. Usually these sites will only allow your stories to be searched if the customer is registered with an “adult” account. The sites I’m familiar with can publish in both ebook and print formats. Self publishing costs can vary, and be prepared to market your stories yourself.

6. Submit your story to Spanking Storybook! Ok, I know that is shameless self promotion, but at least I left it for last. Spanking Storybook accepts spanking story submissions, and yes, you do need to read our Story Submission Guidelines first.

Where do you publish your spanking stories? If you’ve published free spanking stories online, don’t forget to request a story review here.

As always, I’d love your feedback. Leave your comments below.

Spanking fiction tends to be categorized as erotic fiction. Lately, I’ve been wondering about this. Certainly, it is true that most spanking stories include sex, but so do most romance stories. Does that make all romance stories erotic fiction as well? It seems the romance genre continues to include more and more explicit sex scenes. Spanking stories may or may not have explicit sex scenes, and in fact, even the spanking scene may not be described in graphic detail.

So what defines erotic fiction? I don’t believe erotic fiction is pornographic fiction. Although, I’m sure many may disagree. Erotic fiction has explicit details of sex, but the lines between erotic fiction and romance fiction seem to be blurring. So where does spanking fiction fit? I think that spanking stories can be romantic or they can be erotic. For readers who don’t understand spanking fiction, they would likely classify it as erotic and even pornographic, because they don’t see how spanking fits within an adult relationship. For those of us who connect with spanking, I believe we can see how spanking stories can be both romance and erotic.

What do you think? Are spanking stories part of the romance or erotic genre? Or do you agree that spanking stories can be either one depending on how explicit the sex scenes are?

Leave a comment. I’d love to hear your opinions.

I know the obvious answer here is a spanking. Yet, there are spanking stories online that are still on my list of favorites years later. I started to wonder if there are any common ingredients that make up a terrific spanking story, one you go back to read again and again. Here are a few of my ideas.

Characters : My favorite stories have characters I can care about. I also love when an author either revisits her characters from another story, or has them as secondary characters in a new story. It’s like meeting old friends.

Plot: The stronger the plot, the better the story. I’m all for a short and to the point story, but a great spanking story has intrigue and pulls you from chapter to chapter.

Spanking: Yes this should probably be first. The spanking scene needs to be well written, not just a bunch of “SPANK!” and “OWW!”‘s. It helps to know what a spanking really feels like, but it’s not always necessary. A good author can paint the scene and connect you with her fantasies too.

Uniqueness: Again, this isn’t mandatory, but it adds to a memorable spanking story. Is the setting unique? Is the plot unusual? Are the characters not your typical spanking couple?

Those are just a few of my thoughts, and things I will consider when reviewing a spanking story. I’d love to hear what you think. What makes a great spanking story on your keeper list?
